Most organisations build their data and AI strategy backwards: they buy the platform, hire the team, and hope a strategy materialises afterwards. The result is a familiar pattern: leadership announces an AI ambition, every department launches its own pilot, dashboards and models proliferate, activity gets measured instead of outcomes, and eventually someone in finance asks what value any of it actually delivered. The room goes quiet.

For the first time in Sweden – About the MasterClass

This Master Class introduces the Data & AI Strategy Canvas, a 10-element framework designed to close the gap between strategic ambition and day-to-day execution. The session is built around a single, realistic working scenario: a mid-size UK retail bank under competitive pressure, with a board-approved budget and four stakeholders who each want to spend it on something different. Participants will use the canvas to work through that scenario from first principles, starting with strategic objectives and finishing with operating model, governance, and risk, so they leave with both the framework and direct experience applying it.

Why is this MasterClass crucial for any organisation?

The investment imbalance is well documented: organisations consistently spend the vast majority of their data and AI budgets on technology (96%), only a small fraction on people (3%) and operating models (less than 1%), and almost nothing on the organisational change needed to sustain what they build. The result is initiatives with running pipelines, deployed models, and live dashboards that appear productive but cannot be tied to measurable business value. This MasterClass is designed to break that pattern by teaching participants to start with business outcomes and work backward: identifying the decisions that drive those outcomes, the data those decisions require, and only then the technology that supports them. By the end of the day, participants will have applied this approach to a realistic scenario and developed practical skills they can take back to their own organisation.

Who should be in the room?

A mixed audience of data and AI leaders (CDOs, CAIOs, CDAIOs) and data and AI business and product owners who commission, fund, or depend on data and AI initiatives. The session is designed to give both groups a shared language, so it’s most valuable when attended together rather than by data teams alone. No technical background is required..
